Speed Necktie: Bandit Mask vs. Double Cross
To my understanding speed's value is defined as the difference in speed between the two characters and is not a value on its own. Therefore the Double Cross tie (40% chance each round of plus 1 speed to you) is the same as the Bandit Mask (20% chance of plus 1 speed syphon to you).
Advantages: If they ever render all the clothes and accessories the bandit mask will be fantastic!
Disadvantages: If they did render this item it would be easily recognized by others as the accessory that it is.
Thoughts?

Good point on the two items being identical. There's just one exception: if you are using the syphon item vs. a character with zero speed, then his speed doesn't get reduced - all you have is a 20% chance to get one yourself. So the 40% item is better - especially when you consider how many people play without speed modifiers.

That's not true. You can have a negative speed.

Re: Speed Necktie: Bandit Mask vs. Double Cross
That's a great insight. I guess I didn't consider an opponents speed value could be 0. I always thought it to be an arbitrary value >0 at the beginning of the game (say 10) or I considered negative speed a possibility. Not knowing which is the case and considering the two are the same otherwise the Double Cross is the clear way to go if you want to be on the safe side.

Okay - but do you know this to be true? If so, can syphon items also give you negative energy, accuracy...?

Where do you see this? In .rec files or something?

So wouldn't a syphon be better than plain speed build
For argument sake lets say both items are 90 percent effective
Round one with normal speed build you are +1 speed over the other guy
Round one with syphon speed. 1 speed added to you 1 speed minus him. So you are +2 speed over him.
Each round there is a 2 speed difference with the syphon. Or am i just wrong.
